Description

What is it?

There are many types of sugar, the most common of which is sucrose, also known as table sugar, granulated sugar, or simply sugar. Sucrose is a natural sugar found in various amounts in plants such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Sucrose can be either natural sugar or added sugar depending on its source. It is considered natural sugar when consumed directly from whole plant foods. It is considered added sugar when consumed from packaged foods and beverages to which sucrose has been added during manufacturing. Sucrose intolerance is a little-known condition, due to the lack of the enzyme called sucrase.

The breath test for detecting sucrose intolerance is the most sensitive breath test on the market. It is a hydrogen and/or methane breath test (or breath test) for the rapid detection in the body of this food intolerance.

The test involves orally administering a controlled amount of sucrose and collecting exhaled air at different times (every 30 minutes) to determine the amount of hydrogen and/or methane exhaled through breath.

Symptoms

The symptoms related to malabsorption or intolerance to sucrose can be varied. They are mainly of gastric or intestinal type, and among the most common ones are the following:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Abdominal pain
  • Gastric distension

Who is it indicated for?

The breath test for diagnosing sucrose intolerance is especially indicated for individuals with clinical suspicion of this intolerance due to their symptoms after consuming a food containing sucrose.

What does the kit include?

  1. 8 tubes for exhaled air samples obtained through breath. Each one labeled with the corresponding blowing time.
  2. Straw for blowing into the tubes.
  3. One envelope with the prepared Sucrose.
  4. Form to be completed with your data and the symptoms you may experience during the test.

Patient information:
